Types of weight loss surgery we offer

The well-trained bariatric surgeons at Highlands Regional specialize offer proven weight-loss techniques. This includes the following surgical options:

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding induces weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach, restricting the amount of food that can be consumed.

During the procedure, your surgeon uses laparoscopic techniques to implant an inflatable silicone band into your abdomen.

The band is fastened around the upper stomach to create a new, smaller stomach pouch that limits and controls the amount of food you eat. It also creates a small outlet that slows the emptying process into the stomach and the intestines. This causes you to feel full quicker and longer.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

During laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) the surgeon removes approximately 80 percent of the stomach.

Limiting the size of your stomach restricts the amount of food you are able to consume, resulting in weight loss. Unlike other bariatric procedures, LSG is a purely restrictive procedure, so it does not interfere in absorption of any essential vitamins or minerals your body needs.
